Product 1

ORS Lock & Twist Gel

When you open the container, you’ll see a white, jelly-like substance with minimal smell, so if you’re sensitive to scents, you’ll probably like this. The fragrance is practically non-existent so it won’t clash with other scents on your hair and won’t overwhelm you.

The Lock & Twist Gel is thick and feels like jelly, but absorbs easily and clearly in your hands and hair. It’s non-sticky and non-coating, which is important when you apply them to locs. You want products that absorb into the hair and not sit on top of it, flake or coat it heavily (like beeswax would). You also want your twists, locs or coils to move freely, which this gel allows them to do.

The amount you use depends on the thickness of your hair, but you don’t have to use an excessive amount to get satisfactory hold. For each medium-sized twist section I used it on, I applied about a dime-size amount. If you need to freshen up a style, you can apply more gel, which soaks into your hair much like water.

I think this would be a good product for anyone transitioning from relaxed to natural hair, especially for a transition-friendly style like comb coil. Applying the gel to wet hair and combing through allows the two textures to blend together, making the line of demarcation  less obvious. If you’ve done the big chop and have a “Teeny Afro,” the gel works just as well for creating coils on short, natural hair. Wear the coils for a few days or a week, loosen them up and you can enjoy a chunky ‘fro for a few days more.

PRODUCT 2

BEAUTIFUL TEXTURES MOISTURE BUTTER

I got this product at Dansuma, Accra Ghana from a foreign distributor of natural hair product a year ago and i still use it once in a blue moon, it gives me really good curl definition as well as not drying out my hair.

According to the packaging, you should use this to “refresh and hydrate your mixed textured hair every day.” It goes on to say that “Moisture Butter helps maximize the styling options of mixed textured hair by helping achieve softer, more defined curls, healthier looking elongated coils, or simply silky-smooth hydrated hair.”   I tried to use this butter for a wash and go. Hey, I was feeling experimental! However, I didn’t like the oil slick it produced. The best way to use this product is for braid- and twist-outs, as indicated on the package. Sometimes it does help to read directions!

INGREDIENTS

It includes a mixture of natural and chemical compounds. BTB is marketed as being enriched in aloe vera (my curly mane loves this, as you know), coconut oil (love!),  argan oil (the latest oil of the month), shea butter, and mango butter. JAMAICAN BLACK CASTOR OIL

Have used this product for a while now and its happens to be one of my best product so far. I have also recommended this product for few of my naturalistas and i got testimonies from my folks.

i also use this for my hot oil treatment

Why Hot Oil Treatment?

The purpose of performing hot oil treatments on your hair is to allow the heat to bring blood circulation to the scalp, which will open up the pores in your scalp to truly nourish and penetrate underneath the hair follicle to provide healthy, moisturized hair from the root. Performing the hot oil treatment only needs to be done once a week and should always be done on unwashed hair and followed up with shampoo and conditioning per usual.

Ways to do a Hot Oil Treatment.

Heat oil first: Heat up your favorite oil (Jamaican Black Castor Oil) in 30 second increments in the microwave until it is at the desired temperature (do not make the oil too hot). Apply directly onto unwashed hair and scalp. Apply a shower cap and leave on. To get the full benefits of the treatment, leave on for at least an hour (and can be left overnight).

Using heat: Apply your favorite oil to your unwashed hair and scalp thoroughly. Apply a shower cap or heating cap and sit under the dryer for 30minutes to an hour.

No heat: Apply your favorite oil to your unwashed hair an scalp thoroughly. Apply a shower cap and let sit at least one hour. (You can add a towel to wrap around the shower cap and your hair to capture even more heat.)

Our Recommended way to do a hot oil treatment is without any heat. Our scalp releases heat already, so all you need to do is capture it so that it may open your pores and allow the oil to penetrate with the help of a shower cap (and towel if you want). There’s no need to add heat using a microwave (to heat the oil) or with a dryer if you don’t have to.

Product Description

  • help repair dry damaged hair and breakages

BANTU KNOT

Bantu knots are a cute, flirty style traditionally sported by African woman of certain cultural group and some women of African descent but these knots work well with just about all hair types. They are not actually knots, however. Instead, they are small, coiled buns secured against the side of the head. Regardless, if you uncoil your Bantu knots after you’ve sported them, you can create a second, curly hairstyle known as a Bantu knot-out. Here’s what you need to know about creating both Bantu knot styles
